Learn how to improve your techniques, subject choices and methods with nationally recognized artist Talin Lyman. Enjoy a social and educational experience in a relaxed, fun and happy atmosphere. All mediums, styles and levels are welcome! Classes are ongoing and pre-registration is not required. 1:10 ratio.

205237 - Exploring Pastels

Picturesque Pastels covers the use of light and color to make your pastel paintings exciting. Learn to make your pastels show stoppers! This course is for beginners who want to expand their experience with the medium and intermediate pastelists who want to grow their skills. You will paint from a setup and also paint subjects you select. Topics include pastel papers, different types of pastels and mastering the art of underpainting to give you a solid foundation for your work! 1:8 ratio.

205244 - Open Reading

Calling all writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Come to listen or sign up to read an original work (published or unpublished). Participants read for 10-15 minutes; all levels are welcome. A short discussion, not a critique, will follow at the end of the evening. You do not have to call to read, and walk-ins are welcome! Call or text 305-393-0386 for more information. 211101 - Spinning for Safety

In recognition of Bike Safety Month, the Recreation and Parks and the Boynton Beach Police Departments invite children to a free safety event where they will learn the importance of hand signals when turning, wearing a protective helmet and the rules of the road. Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and furnish their own bikes and helmets to participate. Pre-register in advance or on site beginning at 8:30 am. Please note: Those enrolled in the current league have priority in signing up for the next scheduled league. Staff will evaluate the league standings at the end of each 7-week session to determine if any positions are available based on the number of registered league players signing up for the next session. 214101 - Sea Turtle (Level 1)

Did you know green sea turtles can stay under water for as long as five hours? Sea Turtle (Level I) (ages 6 & up) is for those who have never had lessons, cannot swim, or are not comfortable in the water. Children will learn basic water safety and swimming skills at a beginner level. In order to progress to Sailfish (Level II), must successfully demonstrate Sea Turtle exit skills. 1:6 ratio, with 4 minimum in a class.

214102 - Sailfish (Level 2)

Did you know sailfish can swim at speeds of up to 68 mph? Sailfish (Level II) (ages 6 & up) is for those who have had lessons, can swim a minimum of 5 yards and float on their back. Children will develop swimming techniques and must successfully demonstrate Sailfish exit skills, to move to the next level. 1:6 ratio, with 4 minimum in a class.

214103 - Orca (Level 3)

Did you know orcas have flukes, or a tail, used for swimming? Orca (Level III) (ages 6 & up), will practice stroke refinement at an advanced level in order to advance to a Recreation Swim League or pre-competition level. Children must be able to swim 25 yards on their front and 15 yards on their back. 1:6 ratio, with 4 minimum in a class.

214104 - Seahorse 1/2 (Preschool 1 & 2)

Seahorse 1
Did you know seahorses attach to floating objects as a way to travel long distances? This class will familiarize children with the aquatic environment and teach basic aquatic skills, with a parent or guardian in the water. 1:6 ratio, min 4.

214105 - Sea Otters & Pups (Parent&Tot)

Did you know sea otters learn to swim with their parent? Along with mom or dad in the water, children will learn swimming readiness skills. Safety information and teaching techniques will be provided that parents can use to orient their child to the water. Swim diaper and swim cover is needed for those not toilet trained. 1:10 ratio, min 4.

214107 - Boynton Beach Blazers

Children who can swim a minimum of 25 yards freestyle and backstroke are invited to try out on a walk-in basis during general pool admission hours. The league will help swimmers practice their strokes at a semi-skilled level. MInimum: 4

214201 - Great White Shark (Adults)

Great White Shark (Adults) This class is for any experience level, from beginners to those who wish to refine their stroke technique. 1:6 ratio, with 4 minimum in a class.

Students will improve their physical fitness, flexibility and coordination, and relieve stress through traditional karate. They will improve focus and concentration through the constant mental challenge of learning new techniques and terminology while adjusting to this highly-disciplined art. Karate is more than just self-defense; students will develop respect, self-confidence, motivation and perseverance through workouts that require discipline and a positive attitude. 1:14 ratio.

Soccer Shots is the national leader in youth soccer development for young children. Kids will gain an increased understanding of team dynamics, character formation, skill development and coordination through fun fitness activities that are created with age-appropriate curriculum. All equipment, including a jersey, is provided. 1:12 ratio.

305122 - Gymnastics/Cheerleading

Give me a Y, give me an A, give me a Y! Learn what it takes to be a cheerleader! Participants will learn basic cheer and tumbling techniques such as motions, jumps, cheers and pom-pom routines. Tumbling and cartwheel practices will also be taught. 1:10 ratio.

WORSHOP:
Cheerleaders will learn motions, jumps, small stunts and pom pom dance routines. Tumbling skills will be worked on and new tricks introduced. Trampoline, beam and inclines will be used to assist in perfecting tumbling tricks. Cheer arts & crafts and team building games will be included for fun and variety. Students should bring lunch, water and snacks. The deadline to register is August 3. 1:12 ratio.

305123 - Gymnatsics

Want to know how to learn proper rolls, handstands or even backbends? Participants will learn how to do splits and have the opportunity to use various equipment such a mini trampoline and balance beams! 1:10 ratio.

305124 - Drama & Musical Theater

If you love to act, sing and dance this class is for you! Students will learn dances and practice rhythm and timing to build on coordination of their bodies. Musical Theater routines will be introduced from current and older movies. A new musical theater song and dance will be introduced each session. 1:10 ratio.

WORKSHOP:
Students will learn songs, small scripts and musical numbers so they can showcase their talent for their parents! Theater games, stage terminology, singing techniques and dancing steps will be introduced. The workshop also offers arts and crafts, tumbling and team games for fun and variety. Students should bring lunch, water and snacks. The deadline to register is August 3. 1:10 ratio.

Island Surf Camp is back again and offers your child great summer fun! Island Camps has over 40 years of experience in surf lessons, camps and trips. Instructors provide a fun, safe and educational introduction to one of the greatest sports in Florida, empowering youth to live a healthy lifestyle while respecting our beaches and ocean. Kids will have an amazing, unique experience they’ll never forget! No previous surfing experience is necessary; however, participants must be able to swim. Equipment is provided. 1:6 ratio.
