R91-029RESOLUTION R91-~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, PROVIDING SUPPLEMENTAL PAY FOR QUALIFIED CITY EMPLOYEES CALLED TO ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the United States of America is at war; and WHEREAS, the employees of the City of Boynton Beach serving in the military reserves have been called to ~ctive duty to serve our Country; and WHEREAS, Florida StatuteS 115.14 allows municipalities discretion in providing sUpplemental pay and fringe benefits to employees called to active duty; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach does not wish its employees to suffer any economic hardship due to serving and protecting our Country; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The following supplemental pay and benefit package will be provided to qualified City employees on active military service: The City shall supplement the military pay of its authorized employees in an amount necessary to bring their total gross salary, inclusive of their igross military pay to a level earned at the time ~ey were called to active duty; · Since active military employees are covered under military medical insurance, no insurance payments will De required and once an employee returns to work with the City, the pre-existing conditions clause will be waived; the City will continue the existing life insurance coverage; Sick leave and vacation leave balances accrued will remain intact as of the date called to military duty and begin accruing once the employee returns to work. An employee at his/her optio~ may be paid for accrued vacation leave. If vacation time is used, the City supplemental pay will not begin until such vacation time has been exhausted. Pension benefits will be provided as required by applicable state or local law. Section 2. The above listed supplemental pay and benefit package will become effective on the employees first day of active military service and will remain in effect, unless terminated earlier by City Commission action, until the end of the 1990-91 fiscal year.
