81-GG A RESOLUTION OF THE CITy COUNCIL OF TPIE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, E~PREsSING SUPPORT FOR THE REAUTHORIZATIoN OF THE ECONOMIc OPPOR- TUNITY ACT OF 1964 AS AMENDED __ T~E ACT THAT HAS BEEN REFERRED TO AS T~E CENTERPIECE OF TPIE SOCIAL LEGISLATION W~CH CO~PRISED OUR COUNTRY's CO iTM NT TOPOOR PEOPLE. WPLEREAS, the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 states, is, therefore, the policy of the United States to eliminaEe the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation by Opening to everyone the the opportunity to Work, dignity',; and opportunity for education and training, the opportunity to live in decency and "It WPIEREAs, the Economic Opporttulity Act established a national advocaEe for the poor through the Office of Economic Opportunity the now community Services Administration and Community Action Agencies with the continuing mission of advocacy for the interests and needs of the poor; and WHEREAs, Community Action Council of Palm Beach County has operated innovative programs and services for the poor of Palm Beach COunty since 1965 where thousands of poor people have been steered toward mOre productive lives; and WHEREAS, the Economlc Opportunity Act is scheduled to end September 30, 1981; and WHEREAs, without the Economic Opportunity Act there would be no mandate requiring participation of the ~oor in the planning, conduct and administration of Programs aimed at eliminating poverty. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOyNToN BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Boynton Beac~ Urges your support for reauthorization of the Economic OpPortunity Act of 1964, as amended. Section 2. That certified copies of this Resolution be forwarded the Florida Congressional Delegation and the Office of the President of the United States of America. PASSED AND ADOPTED this _ day of 1981.
