A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA AMENDING THE PAY
PLAN 1985/1986, AND ADOPTING JOB DESCRIPTIONS
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BOYNTON BEACH,FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the 1985/86 municipal pay plan
be amended as follows:
Adopting the new position of Assistant Supervisor of
Utility Mechanics - Grade 28, and making it a part of the
pay plan 85/86 and adopting the job description, attached
hereto.
Amending and changing the job titles and job descriptions

ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR OF UTILITY MECHANICS
NATURE OF WORK
Under the general supervision of the Water Treatment Plant
Supervisor, performs a wide range of skilled work in the maint-
enance and repair of water and wastewater treatment plant mech-
anical equipment and systems. Incumbent. will supervise others
in the use of tools and maintenance procedures; schedule and
assign work. Instructions are received either orally or in
writing and may be somewhat complex in nature. Work may be
reviewed while in progress or upon completion. Performs other
work as requested. The employee is required to exercise consid-
erable independent judgment and initiative in carrying out his
duties.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Performs routine and complex preventative maintenance tasks.
Tests motors and pumps; identifies any needed repairs and execunes.
Performs complex maintenance and repair tasks to telemeters, re-
ceivers and related electronic and shortwave frequency related
equipment.
Checks contro.1 panels, dehumidifiers and pumps. Rechecks
any problem areas. Tests auxiliary generators and pumps. Repacks
pumps. Must be proficient and experienced at electrical welding
of all kinds of metal pipes and fittings as well as proficient and
experienced at acetylene welding.
Assigns and schedules the work of semi-skilled and skilled
workers to assist in any or all of the above tasks; trains person-
nel in the subsection.
Maintains current files and records of repairs and pre-
ventive maintenance.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Working. experience of a master mechanic, preferable on
heavy equipment; graduate of a standard high school or vocational
school supplemented with auto and diesel mechanics at an advanced
trade school; or any equivalent combination of training and ex-
perience. Must possess a current valid Florida Driver's License or
any other certificates as required by regulatory agencies.

Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment used in
the department. Knowledge of basic principles of water and
wastewater treatment. Knowledge of occupational hazards and
safety precautions applicable to the job.
Ability to service and repair pumps, chlorinators, tele-
metry and other plant and lift station equipment. Ability to
supervise employees of lesser rank in complex maintenance and
routine manual labor tasks. Ability to understand-complex oral
and written instructions. Ability to read simple diagrams,
blueprints or construction plans.
Skill in the repair of motors, pumps, chlorinators, gen-
erators, telemetry and other mechanical equipment. Skill in the
use of welding tools, cutting torch and related equipment.
Knowledge of and skill in using the following equipment and

NATURE OF. WORK
Employeerin this position is Under'the direction of the Utility
Systems Supervisor. The employee performs routing daily checking
Of~ilift stations and raw water s~pply wells. Duties and responsi-

of lift station facilities. Graduation from a standard high

UTILITY MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I
NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled work in water or wastewater treatment plant
in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
The employee in this class is responsible for the technical
aspects of all equipment installations, repair and preventive maint-
enance. The employee supervises and instructs employees of lesser
rank in the daily work routine to include use of shop tools and
maintenance procedures. The employee will prepare work schedules
and assign work crews as maintenance requires. Instructions are
received orally or in writing from a supervisor and the employee
is expected to work with relative independence in carrying out the
instructions. Work is subject to inspection by the plant super-
visor while in progress or upon completion.

NATURE OF WORK
This is a supervisory position in the planning and assisting
the work of the Utility Mechanic I or other semi-skilled and
skilled workers in the repair and maintenance of mechanical
equipment and systems in wastewater or,water facitit%es. General
supervision is received from the Assistant Supervisor or his
designate at the assigned plant. The employee in this class does
have latitude for making independent judgement and decisions with-
in the established policies of the department. The employee may
be required in the absence of others to perform any and all re-
pazrs as required.

NATURE OF WORK
This is manual work in the maintenance of the sewage treat-
ment lift stations, well pumps and water treatment plant. Em-
ployee is responsible for the care and maintenance of mechanical
systems. Work involves washing or scraping and various maint-
enance jobs as assigned. Work is performed under the supervision
of the Assistant Supervisor.

Washes and scrapes all bar screens at lift stations, paints
